Handy DIY Paint Project Supplies

You Don't Need To Spend A Lot of Money On Good Painting Supplies

Affordable Do-It-Yourself Paint Project Supplies List

Paint Project Supplies

You needn't spend a lot for any of these easily obtained paint project supplies that you'll need in order to accomplish the art projects I share with you here. I've told you before -- I'm not a schooled artist, so whatever I use has been what I have had around the house or when I do go to buy something, I look for items that will do the job, hold up to a number of uses, but be moderately priced.

For example ... paint brushes, whether artist types or all-purpose types, can be very expensive, but most times it's not important to own the best. Honestly, with the type of painting projects I've got here, you're going to get the same end results with or without the most expensive brush available! That's because we're not painting portraits! We're daubing, smooshing, etc.!  :-)  Synthetic bristles (vs. natural bristles) will be just fine for these do-it-yourself garden art crafts.

DIY Paint Project Supplies Checklist

None Of These Items Are Expensive Nor Do They Have To Be Brand New

What You'll Want To Have On Hand

  • Paints: I primarily have the small bottles of acrylic craft paint on hand; often-used colors I purchase in larger sizes
  • Spray Paints: for base coats & protective top coats
  • Brushes: small, large; angled heads, not angled; stiff or soft bristles; etc.
  • Water Container(s): for rinsing brushes — plastic food containers; fast-food drinking cups, etc.
  • Plastic or Aluminum Pie pPates for colors (used for paint trays)
  • Sponges: various sizes (old, tired dish sponges are just fine)
  • Scissors
  • Masking or Painter's Tape: (the blue colored kind)
  • Toothbrush: used and retired
  • Feather: if you're going to do a marbleizing technique
  • Sandpaper
  • Paper Towels
  • Old Dish Towel
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Drop Cloth or Paper: to cover your working surface

I Recommend This Very Handy & Nifty Gadget ...

Plexiglass TV swivel tray

A Turntable/Swivel base: Boy,  is this a handy thing to have. This  is a "retired" acrylic TV swivel base  that is now perfect for my painting  projects. It allows me to turn my  project as I'm painting or embellishing without, obviously, having to touch the object directly.

You can purchase a simple metal ball-bearing swivel base from the hardware store and mount a board on it. It doesn't have to be fancy — it's going to get paint on it, right? Or, for around $10.00 I've seen turntable/swivels with plastic tops that will do the job for you, too.
