Hypertufa Mortar Recipe

Better Than Any Store Bought Mortar Mix Product

If You Need To Join Real Or Faux Rocks Together
This Hypertufa Recipe For Mortar Will Be Your Choice

This homemade concoction has a much better look than any mortar mix you can buy at a building supply store, as it simulates a more natural, stone appearance.

Another great thing about this recipe is that it can be used in a stream-bed or along a pond's edge. However, be aware of the fact lime will leach from any recipe that uses portland cement ... please be sure it's safe before you add plants or fish.

The DIY Mortar Recipe Ingredients

Hypertufa Mortar Recipe

1 part Portland cement
2 parts builders sand
1/2 part peat moss or black potting soil
1/2 part clay soil, with clods broken up
Acrylic fortifying additive**
Enough water to make a mud-pie consistency

** The acrylic fortifying additive is a "must do" as it helps make the mortar stronger. (This additive can be purchased in the same department where concrete products are sold.)

For a different "natural" look, try adding a small amount of leaf mulch, or pea gravel.
